UNION is a British lock brand under ASSA ABLOY, the Swedish security conglomerate responsible for 20 other hardware brands including security locks such as Corbin Russwin. ASSA ABLOY is a global leader in door security solutions.

What is the history of UNION Locks?

UNION was formed from a family business in Willenhall, 1840. Willenhall has been dubbed the centre of the British lock-making industry for more than 400 years.

The UNION brand provides a wide range of architectural products for both contract and commercial use and is largely used in more than 80 countries. The brand’s products are designed in the UK by extremely competent project technicians and are the hallmark of performance and quality. The UNION ‘G’ mark is a comprehensive guarantee that is valid for 5 – 25 years.

The brand is also a certified license holder of Secured by Design (SBD) a UK Police Initiative. This means it is approved by the Police and encouraged to manufacture more products that reduce opportunities for crime.

What is the design of the UNION lock?

UNION locks are designed to satisfy three properties:

Hinges: Tested to BS EN 1935:2002 and assessed for application on timbre fire doors

How do UNION locks work?

UNION also manufactures modular lock cases and cylinders. The Rim Locks are sold separately to increase customisation. Unless indicated otherwise, all Rim Locks are supplied as case only. They have been made with a variety of key mechanisms, for function, security and quality. The two common lock functions are deadlock and latch.

While the sliding latch can be thrust in by slight pressure, a deadlock operates by a bolt that can be moved into unlocking and locking position with a key. This can be done from both sides.

How secure is a UNION Lock?

Being one of the ASSA ABLOY brands, UNION locks provide high level lock security. It is very secure and almost impenetrable.
